On Thursday 15th December we, all the Q12 students, had the opportunity to watch the White Horse Theatre perform the famous play The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Luis Stevenson.
The drama is about two characters, Dr Jekyll, a very friendly and successful doctor and Mr Hyde, the exact opposite of Dr Jekyll, who kills a woman and is rather aggressive and debauched. It gradually comes to light that both characters are actually the same person. During the act, Dr Jekyll has to take a mysterious potion to hide his evil side. His friends do not know about Dr Jekyll´s dark side.
The set itself was simple but effective and it did not change during the entire play. Unlike the set the actors often changed to act different roles. To support the mysterious atmosphere, background music was used to portray Hyde’s character and feelings.
All in all, you can say that the play was absolutely worth watching and it was a welcome change to a normal school lesson.
